Low-value Care (WP2)

One goal in the use of evidence-based medicine is that new, more effective and less harmful methods replace old ones.  De-implementation of low-value care is essential for minimizing patient harm and maximizing efficient use of resources, as well as for improving population health and maintaining public trust.  

We will find out the factors that influence de-implementation of low-value care and how health care professionals and patients feel about de-implementation. 

We have established Finnish terms for “low-value care” and for “de-implementation”.  

We have published two systematic reviews of de-implementation RCT’s. The first one described the characteristics of de-implementation interventions and at the same time compiled recommendations for planning de-implementation research. The second described the costs and effects of de-implementation interventions on health care costs.  

 Next, we will finalize the analysis of an intervention study and focus group interviews, and report the results. In addition, we are doing a third systematic review article on de-implementation. 

Our research has been done in collaboration with a multinational team of researchers.
